Education funding
Education funding to local schools
Education funding is a key priority of the Trust and every year a large portion of our funding is allocated to education.
We provide annual funding to Kuranui College, Greytown Primary School, Greytown Kindergarten and Greytown Early Years.
This funding is awarded to the schools following an application process generally held in October where each school submits applications for initiatives and projects for the following school year.

Funding of $56,250 has been set aside for distribution to the schools for initiatives we will support during the 2025 education year.
Greytown Kindergarten has for a number of years been funded to have Martin the Toymaker come in to work with the children. They have recently been funded $3,750 to have Martin work again with the children in 2025.
Greytown Early Years have also applied for funding to have Martin run sessions at their centre. Trust funding of $4,500 has been confirmed for Greytown Early Years to help fund three initiatives including the sessions with Martin, meeting part of the costs of running the Explorers and Adventurers programme and delivery of the Transition to School programme.
Funding of $23,000 has been allocated to Greytown Primary School to purchase much needed furniture – chairs and tables - for their school hall as well as a new portable speaker and trolley. The funding will also cover eight new picnic tables to be placed around the school to replace the deteriorated outdoor seating.
Kuranui College sought funding for one initiative – to extend the development of their Te Ao programme in Kura. This programme is designed to support a sense of belonging and enhance the mana of all of our rangatahi, with education programmes in History, Language and Tikanga. Trustees were enthusiastic supporters of this initiative for which $25,000 was allocated.
Our Trust Deputy Chair, Derek Williams, recently attended Kuranui’s junior prizegiving assembly and was left slightly speechless following the extremely strong and powerful performance by the Kapa Haka group at the start of the assembly. “I was moved by the energy, rhythm and harmony of the performance – outstanding!”

Kuranui College applied for funding towards costs associated with their successful and growing Wananga / Academy learning programme. Trustees are very supportive of this initiative and awarded $25,000. A similar amount was awarded last year.
Greytown School received $20,000 for a new sound system for the school hall and $4,135 for the purchase of equipment for their Enviroschool Group programme.
The Woodwork for Young Learners programme that the Trust funded for Greytown Kindergarten last financial year has been such a great success for them that they applied again this year to cover further regular sessions in 2024 with Martin the Toymaker. They have been awarded $5,000 towards the continuation of this very worthwhile programme.
Greytown Early Years received $3,315 to help with their ongoing Explorers programme, their new Adventurers programme for the younger children and purchase of new Mobilo resources.
